Gemini Preparatory School opened in 1983 and is a privately owned provision which operates from the old school house in Rise, a small village in East Yorkshire. We serve the local villages and a wide surrounding area in a picturesque rural setting with fabulous outside space.
Gemini prides itself on being a small setting and we only take up to 12 children per day. At Gemini you’re part of our family not just a number! - By ensuring small numbers and child teacher ratio’s we get to know each family and child exceptionally well. Working closely together we build good relationships with all the children and parents/carers through good communication links and by offering a warm friendly environment. We pride ourselves on the education experiences and structure we provide all the children in our care which ensures they progress to their full potential and are ready when they leave for Primary School, making the transition as smooth as it can be.
We care for children from Birth – 5 years and accept childcare funding and vouchers. We have two main sessions which are 9am - 3pm and 9am - 1pm. We are open 44 weeks of the year. The hours we open vary depending on need and we are flexible and will accommodate wherever possible currently 8am being the earliest and 4.30 the latest we open on certain days. The cost is £5.25 per hour and discounts are given for 3+ days attended per week and also for siblings.
Gemini operates mainly in one large room that is sectioned into different developmental areas, with the children having free access to any toys or resources they wish to play with or use including bricks, dressing up, babies, prams, jigsaws, drawing, sand, kitchen, trains, cars, farm and many more. There is an extensive outside area with ride on toys and grass with climbing frame, slide, playhouse, sand/water. We also have an outside vegetable garden which the children grow fruit, vegetables and salad in each year. We experience nature’s wonders within our setting; the transformation of frogspawn to frogs and chrysalis to butterflies which we then release.
There are many animals in the fields surrounding Gemini and a local farm which the children regularly visit to see the sheep and lambs which they get to feed and pet if they are lucky enough. They also look at the chickens, collect eggs and see the horses, donkeys and cows in the fields when we are out exploring on our country walks or picnics. They also enjoy watching the tractors, trailers and farm vehicles pass by. We try to get as much fresh country air as we can even in winter playing in the snow (if we get any!)
All Gemini's staff are mature, very experienced, fully qualified and very friendly. All have worked with babies and children for numerous years and have a positive approach and lead by example. We do not use agency staff and ensure the children have continuity of care with teachers they are familiar with.
